Simple And Inexpesnive Ways To Celebrate Valentines Day With Kids

Next week is a big week in our house.  The festivities begin with Valentine’s day followed by both kids having a birthday within 4 days of that.  It is always an exciting and joyous time for our family!    With a busy and hectic schedule, and the chaos of Christmas time still looming over our heads I have decided to make it my mission, to keep things simple!  One of the things I am planning for this Valentines Day is so simple and inexpensive but still makes the day extra special for the kids.  Along with a little scavenger hunt to share some reasons why their daddy and I love them and homemade heart shaped doughnuts, they will be waking up to a couple of surprises on the 14th of February.

Non-Candy School Valentines Under 35 Cents Each

Valentines Day is just around the corner and we just finished up a special something for the kid’s to take to school for their friends.  With lots of new allergy related rules in schools I have decided that in lou of candy treats for Valentine’s Day that the kids and I could come up with some other inexpensive ideas that don’t involve food at all.  We put together three great valentines for under .35 cents each, and another for the teachers under .75 cents each.  Because my daughter has a slight straw obsession we choose crazy straws for her preschool friends, and my son choose bouncy balls for his kindergarten class.  We also made some crayon and marker valentines for teachers and a few their friends.

Whooo’s Been Good? – Fun Kid’s Reward System

I think every mother wants to positively reinforce their children’s good behavior.  If you are like me, when you see bad behavior it is something you automatically “hone in on” – to correct it instantly.  Positive behaviors, on the other hand, often don’t get the same amount of attention.  We expect  our children to do certain things and act a certain way, and that is our job as parents to teach them.  Here is a great way to make a big deal out of good, positive behaviors and kind actions that your children choose to do on their own!  “Whooo’s been good” is a little surprise jar that we have in our house for when I catch the kids doing something unexpected and totally awesome!

Kid’s Felt Christmas Tree – Let Them Re-decorate It Over And Over

Do you have a little one in your house that would redecorate the Christmas tree every single day until Christmas?  If so, here is a great idea to let those little hands get creative with their very own little Christmas tree.  Using a dollar store cone and some felt you can create them their very own Christmas Tree that they can decorate over and over again, any way they would like, all season long!  Felt ornaments, lights and garland allow them to move things around and change things up without breaking the real ornaments on the tree.

Toilet Paper Roll Turkey Craft For Kids

I love the idea of letting the kids help create things that will decorate our home for the Holidays.  This Thanksgiving the kids and I have been geared up and created three great turkey crafts to help deck out our house for turkey day.  Most of our Thanksgiving activities are centered around conversations about being thankful and counting our blessings.  This particular project is more for the fun of adding some cute turkeys to our fall decor in our house.  This simple kids craft is fun to make, keeps the kids busy, and allows them to help decorate for Thanksgiving!

Make And Play With Halloween Colored Playdough

I am always looking for ways to make our normal play extra exciting for the kids.  Halloween is the perfect time to turn normal craft and play times into holiday fun and excitement.  We love playing play dough in our house.  I haven’t purchased play dough from the store for  a couple of years, and instead we make it at home.  Making homemade play dough  is cheap, easy and  a great way to get the kids in the kitchen.  Making it in fun festive colors turns it into the perfect Holiday activity for kids.
