Candy Corn Painted Pumpkins

This is the most fantastic time of the year, in my humble opinion.  Anything that allows us to be outside enjoying the fresh, crisp fall air is something that I don’t want to miss. With some serious life changes happening in our family this year, projects are getting fewer and far between, but they are also getting more precious, simple, and joy filled too. Here is a fun little after school fall activity that anyone can fit into their busy schedule. Cute little candy corn painted pumpkins – just right to decorate for fall in a sweet and… not so spooky way!

Well first, I must start by explaining my absence.  It’s no surprise if you are a follower that something has changed.  Let me explain.  The day that my last baby went off to school this year, I leaped face first into a new a whole new life.  After 4 years of being home strictly to raise my babies the thought of coming home to a quiet, empty, lifeless house put me into a panic.  The thought was unbearable, so I took a huge leap of faith, and am now a proud full time working momma!  I thrust myself into a full time position that fits are family perfectly, and I also couldn’t be more proud of my school going babies.  I am excited to be joining the ranks of the many working mothers out there, and know that it is best for our little family.

While the adjustment  hasn’t been simple, it has a been a blessing in many ways.  I find our projects at home to be much more simple because of the lack of time in our days.  I find that the kids are taking more time, effort, and joy in their projects because they are not being done each and every day.  Don’t get me wrong, it was a hard choice to slow down with A Spotted Pony and to see our family activities lessen.  It is something that I have poured my heart and soul into daily for the last 2 years.  But, As I learn to balance my new working mom life, I hope to find a happy medium and keep A Spotted Pony a part of it.

There may be fewer posts per week, but my posts may also appeal to a whole new group of people as well.  Things that are simple, easy, and fun…that any family, no matter what their schedules look like, can do together!  So thanks for stopping back to see whats new! Like this sweet like candy coated pumpkin!

So here is one of those little projects that takes just a few minutes to put together, and is a great way to unwind and spend some time with the kids after a long day at school.  Grab a few little pumpkins (or big if you wish) and get creative.

We had everything we needed on hand for this project so it was inexpensive, and super quick to prepare for.  We had just enough little pumpkins out in the garden for the kids to each get three.  I gathered some paints and brushes and we got to work creating candy corn painted pumpkins to help decorate our front porch for Halloween.

I got out some paper plates for the kids to paint the pumpkins on – to help make for easy clean up.

I then added yellow, white, and orange paint to another plate for them to share.  Feel free to omit the orange since your pumpkin is already that color, but my kiddos asked to use it anyway!  If you are going out to buy supplies, that is one thing you could skip.

The kids had a really great time making their candy corn pumpkins and each one turned out totally unique.  Once their candy colored pumpkins were dry, they got to decorate out on the porch, choosing where to put them.  Depending on the type of paint you use these may or may not be protected from the weather.  Because we used tempera paint.  I left ours under the overhang so they don’t get wet and wash away the paint.

Take a few minutes to get crafty with the kids this fall!
