What I Wore Wednesday – Flip Flops And Flannel

I had a small obsession with flannel last winter and was super excited to bust out the tote full of winter and fall clothes.  The flannel and flip flops will probably only last a few weeks, but I am loving it!  This week I was able to put together three ultra comfortable outfits that worked great for this mom on the go as an alternative to the old sweatshirts and yoga pants.

Get the low down on why I am including What I Wore Wednesday posts here, but the main reason is to motivate myself to put in a little extra effort each and every day.  What I wore Wednesday is a way for Mom’s to share outfits and get inspired to get dressed even if they aren’t heading off to work each day.  The Pleated Poppy has an amazing series where she shares what she wears each week to keep herself accountable for getting out of her pajamas everyday and I’m joining in the fun!

Tuesday:  Running Errands, kids to school, and little lady to dance class.

Not sure why I am so obsessed with the flannel shirt craze.  I guess I feel comfy, cozy, and semi-stylish in them.  I have quite a few different colors that I collected last winter and I’m super excited that the weather has changed so I can wear them again.  This one I paired with some super fun neon sandals that I scored at Goodwill for only $2.99!  I don’t mind buying things that are on trend for a season if they cost that little.  Here’s hoping that the trend is still “in” next summer since I will probably be packing them up soon.

Flannel Shirt:  Old Navy $15.99

Jeans: Jeans:  Charlotte Russe Clearance $20.00

Neon Sandals:  Target Brand New From Goodwill $2.99

Yellow t-shirt: Kohls $4.20 (sale and coupon)

Total outfit cost:  $43.18

Hair:  Air dried natural curls with some product.  I combine a gel, mouse, and conditioning spray to keep curls soft and flexible but still hold onto the curl throughout the day.

Thursday:  Grocery shopping, kids off to school and dog to the vet.

Okay – this outfit was surprisingly comfortable!  I always think that people look so put together and sleek in blazers and structured coats.  I don’t mind them, but I have few reasons to own one and don’t love how restricting they feel when I am chasing, picking up, and playing with the kids.  This “blazer” as actually made of a soft and very flexible jersey material and feels as good as wearing a sweatshirt!  It doesn’t quite have the structure of a blazer, but is a great way to dress up a graphic tee and jeans without feeling restricted.

Jersey “blazer”:  Rue 21 $21.00

Jeans: Jeans:  Charlotte Russe Clearance $20.00

Graphic Tee:  Walmart $4.99 (my son and hubby picked it out for me as a just because gift & I love it- makes me happy every time I wear it)

Black Wedges:  American Eagle Goodwill $6.00

Total Outfit Cost:  $51.99

Hair:  The good ole’ sock bun in rolled into natural curly hair.  Less than 2 minutes and my hair is done and doesn’t move all day long.

My Pinterest inspired outfit this week was via Fashion Worship.  A simple pair of jeans combined with an off the shoulder shirt and flip flops.  This outfit would cost you around $260 for just the jeans, shirt and sandals.  My outfit includes the exact same shirt from Alloy (but in a different color) and my total outfit cost was just $40.00.

Sunday:  Dinner and visiting with family.

This was the perfect outfit for a casual family get together.  The shirt is like a big baggy t-shirt but the boat neck – off the shoulder cut of it really makes it special.  Mixed with some distressed jeans and easy flip flops I felt super comfortable yet put together.

Pink Top: Alloy $10.00

Distressed Jeans:  Shopko $20.00 (on sale for $30 & a $10 off coupon)

Sandals:  Walmart:  $10.00

Earrings:  Old – have had them since high school

Total Outfit Cost:  $40.00

Hair:  Overnight sock bun curls pulled back into a high ponytail.  I always wrap a section of my hair around the hair elastic and add volume to the top before putting in the ponytail.  It makes a plain old pony tail a little more special.
