Snow Day Activity For Kids – How To Make Snow Playdough

Too cold out to take the kids out to play in the snow?  Make snow play dough with your kids using a few simple ingredients that you already have in your pantry.  Your kids can “play in the snow” for hours in the warmth and comfort of your home.  No snow pants required, and no red runny noses, a fun snow day project.

Usually by this time of the winter my kids have gone completely stir crazy and it is quite evident that cabin fever  has set in. Thanks to our mild Wisconsin winter and unseasonably warm temperatures, we have gotten to spend an unusual amount of time playing outside this year.    My plan was to share all sorts of indoor activities to keep little ones busy this year, but we just have not done as many projects as in past years.  I’m certainly not complaining!  Getting the kids outside and moving is by far the best way to spend our free time.  We have had just a few days that have been too cold, or too harsh to play outside.  One of the kid’s very favorite activities that we have done this year is to make snow play dough.  They love to make their own play dough.  The actual mixing and coloring of the dough is an exciting project in itself for the kids.  Make it glittery snow dough, and you have a hit with the kids.  The very first time we made this it kept the kiddos busy for hours.  They made snowmen, played with little animals in the snow, and rolled and cut out all sorts of snow shapes.  They asked me if they could play with it again and again weeks.

We have tried a few different recipes for homemade play dough.  They all make the kids pretty happy, but I really love this  recipe that I found on the blog Ten Kids And A Dog.  It is simple and quick to make and the best part is that I always have the ingredients in the cupboards.  If we decide to make it on a whim there is no trip to the store for supplies.  This recipe gives you a dough with a great consistency that the kids can work with really easily.  It isn’t sticky or greasy, just right for little hands.

Once you make this you can store it in an airtight container or Ziploc bag so your kids can play day after day.  They can build a snowman any time of the day without even having to get their mittens out!  This snow dough gives them the the opportunity to play in the snow all winter long no matter what the weather is like outside.

This is such a fun indoor winter project for the kids.  Let them create all sorts of sparkling little friends using this awesome snow dough.  This would make a great project for a party, or even a great gift to make and give.  This snow dough has been a huge hit in our house.  Give it a try on your next snow day, your kids will thank you for it!
