Make A Cloche From Dome Desk Clocks – Inexpensive and Versatile Home Decor

Cloches and bell jars are a huge trend in home decor right now. They are beautiful and a simple way to change up your decor. Using an old dome clock I was able to transform it into a cloche that I can change up from season to season.

This is an idea that I have seen all over home decor blogs. It seems as though each creative blog I have seen has it’s own version. I had one of these clocks at home, so I decided to give it a go. I loved how it turned out so much that I have made 3 other ones to put throughout our home. They are a great way to add natural colors and textures into your decor. My clock started out looking like this one and the after picture is dramatically different.

It is as simple as taking a screwdriver and removing all of the hardware from the inside of the dome. I have done this with metal, and plastic desk clocks and they both turned out well. After you remove the clock you are left with a little base, and a glass dome. You can spray paint the base any color that you like, and you have an instant cloche.

After your paint is dry you can turn your dome upside down and fill with anything that you like. Put the base on and flip it over. Done!

I love to add different things throughout the year. I fill them with little ornaments for Christmas time, spiders for Halloween, pictures for birthdays, and really anything that fits the room that they are in.

I don’t think I have ever stopped at Goodwill and not seen about three of these on the shelves. They run about $3 to $5 from what I have seen. If you don’t have one laying around stop by a thrift store or Goodwill and there is a good chance you will be able to find a dome clock so you can make your very own cloche for your home.
