The kids are getting excited for Thanksgiving . Nothing is more important than the people in our lives who we are blessed with. What better way for your kids to show those people that they are thankful for them than by making and sending these cute little turkeys.
Who doesn’t love to get a special envelope through good old fashion snail mail? Not a bill, not a reminder, just a nice little “I’m Thinking of you, and love you” card. The last couple of weeks the kids and I have been having a lot of conversations about what is really important, and the things that we are thankful for in our lives. Number one on their lists were all people. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. We wanted to do a little something for each of them to show them that we care.
We started talking about our blessings by making a fun kids thankful tree craft with colorful leaves. I used the family and friends that they added to their trees to decide who we should send our turkey cards to. We got out the good old craft supplies and started creating cards that would make our loved ones smile.
You will need:
- Craft Feathers
- Glue
- Googly Eyes
- Brown Foam Paper
- Foam Shape Stickers (Beak, Heart, Feet)
- Card stock Paper (I used Scrapbook rectangles from a package all pre cut)
- Markers
- Envelopes
- Stamps
All I had to do was cut out the shape of the turkey body from the brown foam paper and lay out all of the supplies. The kids first glued the feathers onto the card stock paper. I showed them where the turkey body would go, and they got busy making some colorful turkey tails. Next they could glue on the body and make the silly turkey come to life. They added shaped foam stickers to make feet, a beak, and a heart to make our turkey look extra loving. Last the little googly eyes finish off this cute and silly card.
The kids really enjoyed picking out the colors of the feathers and deciding where to put the eye balls. We hand wrote a simple little note on the back to tell our family and friends that we are thankful for them! My four year old enjoyed signing his name on each and adding some special little touches of his own. Sometimes, it is the little things that make people feel appreciated and special. My hope is that the kids had fun creating these for the people that they love, and that they learned a little about making others feel loved with a simple act of kindness. I hope that as our friends and family receive these that they feel as special as they really are to us! A silly, big hearted turkey can say a lot!
