Do It Yourself Ruffled Purse

My kids are a little older, and I no longer need to lug around a ginormous purse full of their essentials!  A sad, but exciting thought.  While on the search for a new purse nothing gave me that “love this to pieces” feeling.  I was able to make my own ruffled purse that has me head over heels in love!

Purses are a haul all, a stash it, lug it, always by your side important accessory for any woman, especially a mom.  I was searching for something that was my style and that fit my needs.  I loath straps that don’t stay on my shoulder (I have enough to worry about without fixing that strap every 2 seconds).  I wanted something cute, but not too fancy, and something that wasn’t huge, but that I could still stash a couple books, toys, and snacks in if I needed to.  I stumbled upon this amazing tutorial on a ruffled tote by V and Co.  Oh my, I instantly wanted one to tote my mommy essentials around.  Here is my version that I made using her tutorial.

Sigh!  Isn’t she pretty?  I defiantly got that giddy “I can’t believe I actually made this”  feeling when I was finished.  I love it even more than I anticipated!

I found the black ruffled with white trim fabric at Joann’s Fabric.  I think it was less than $5.00 for 1/2 yard using my trusty coupons.  The black and white ticking fabric on the inside is one of my absolute favorite fabric patters – I want to put it on everything.  I had a little stash of it at home.  It was the perfect fit for my ruffled fabric.

The straps were made from a heavier satin like fabric that I had on hand, and I love how well they stay put on my shoulder.  My final addition was this pretty little jeweled flower!  It adds the perfect touch to finish off the bag.  Let me be honest, the flower is actually a hair clip that my daughter has had for a couple years!  She hates wearing it (always rips it out and throws it on the floor),  so why fight it?  It know has a place of honor on my new pretty purse!

I think this bag has the perfect mix of function and style.  It is  frilly yet casual, cute yet comfortable, and simple but special!  Check out the tutorial and make one for yourself.  It think this will be one of the Christmas gifts that my favorite girlies in my life will be getting this year!
