Chocolate Chip Cookie Pumpkin Treat

Throughout a rainy and cold weekend we managed to have some indoor fun, carve pumpkins, do Halloween crafts, and spend some quiet time together as a family.  We made our staple soft cookie bars, but turned them into a cute pumpkin style Halloween treat to help celebrate pumpkin carving day in our house.  It was the perfect treat to share after carving pumpkins and allowed the kids to each make and decorate their own Jack-o-lantern shaped cookie.

I was lucky enough to have the little man home last Friday and all weekend long.  We managed a bunch of fun crafts, made some home cooked meals and soups, and snuggled in together all weekend. We did a Frankenstein craft, made Halloween colored play dough and had lots of fun together as a family.  I will share both of those craft projects with you throughout the week.

As you can see we really enjoyed our family time carving pumpkins.

So much so that the little lady had to dance!

On the day that we carved our pumpkins I thought it would be fun to have a special treat for dessert.  Everyone in my family loves the soft chocolate chip cookie bar recipe that I shared with you recently.  So, I decided we should make a batch to enjoy after a tasty soup dinner.  I made the dough but then split it in half.  I baked each half in a round glass pie pan to create 2 pumpkin shaped (round )cookies.  The kids then each got a cookie that they could turn into a jack-o-lantern.  We colored some frosting orange and frosted the whole cookie after it cooled.  Then they used a little store bought icing tube in black to make a face on it.  We added sprinkles for fun, and were done.

They really loved decorating that nights after dinner dessert, especially because it was pumpkin carving day and fit so well with our day.  Check out the recipe here so you can give it a try on your own – your kids will love making it and eating it too!
