Baskets and baskets of books….everywhere! Every mother of toddlers knows what I’m talking about. You finish every single night by scooping ALL the books that are covering the living room floor back into their baskets! I found that the kids enjoyed dumping them and then dancing on them more than reading them. These inexpensive bookshelves made from rain gutters are the PERFECT solution!
I originally wanted to make one of those wooden pottery barn style book racks, but then stumbled upon this fantastic idea!! I have seen many different blogs that boasted about the genius idea of using rain gutters as book shelves!! I was head over heals! We put a set in each child’s room to display and store there books!
This was a relatively inexpensive project!!! We bought 2 (10ft) sections of rain cutters and cut them to fit the spaces in their rooms. We made sure to get enough end caps, and brackets so they had a good deal of support. I wasn’t sure if my 2 year old would try to climb them or not! When my husband attached them to the walls we used the brackets meant for attaching gutters and put an additional few screws directly through the gutters into the wall for extra support. They are holding up beautifully and look as good as the day we put them up!
I had these awesome scrapbook stickers that I ordered by accident and decided that my daughter’s new book shelves would be the perfect place for them!
I am SO pleased with these shelves. I made a big comfy pillow to put underneath as the perfect reading spot!
I love walking by the kid’s rooms and catching them all snuggled in their pillows with the stack of books that they have already looked through next to them! I feel like each and every children’s book that we own is a piece of art, and now they have a special place where they can be easily seen, put away by the kids, and well taken care of! No more dancing on books, just reading these days! These shelves are also the perfect little home for there favorite little stuffies to sleep!
