What I Wore Wednesday – Trick Or Treat

We have had a busy week with all of the Halloween festivities in full swing.  I have found myself almost constantly in skinny jeans with boots and flowing tops now that the weather has gotten a little colder.  For me, the combination is perfect for my day to day tasks and for hauling the kids to and fro.  I’m loving the cozy scarves boots, and layers.  It has become my go to quick option in the mornings, which is a huge step up from my old yoga pants and over sized sweatshirts a few months ago.

First of all Happy Halloween to you all!  Hope you are enjoying some fun family time together eating too many treats and having some dress up fun!

Even our dog Kramer is getting in on the the What I Wore fun – but only because my little girl makes him.  He is very tolerant and a good sport only because he loves her!  Our family had a great time trick or treating this week and I was so happy that we had some decent weather so the kids didn’t have to wear winter coats over their costumes (which is the norm).  We had a perfect day, and tons of fun! My little Toadstool and Princess Toadstool couldn’t have played the part any better while we were out trick or treating.

That brings me to my first What I Wore Wednesday outfit!  This was my Pinterest inspired outfit for the week, and lucky me, I had the boots  from the inspiration photo in my closet.  Unfortunately the pin does not lead to the original link, but I wish it did – I am assuming it is from Polyvore.  From what I gather the shirt alone in the photos is $65.00 from Banana republic and the boots are $50 at Old Navy.    It is a great easy outfit and I love it lots.  I am guessing it would be over $200 for the entire outfit.

Sunday:  Trick Or Treating with the kids and to a family birthday party.

This outfit is bright, fun, ultra comfortable and just my style.  My version is pretty close and budget friendly too.  I used the riding boots that I wear over and over again with skinny jeans – just this time under by boot cut jeans.

Yellow shirt:  Old Navy Clearance $8.00

White T-shirt:  Kohls $4.20 (sale and coupon)

Jeans:  Thrifted BKE Jeans $25.00

Brown Boots:  Old Navy $40.00 (with coupon)

Cream Scarf:  K-mart clearance $4.00

Total Outfit Cost:  $81.20 for the entire outfit –  including BKE Jeans and boots that I wear all of the time.

Hair:  I had a rare chance to straighten my hair since the kiddos took a nap so they could stay up late for trick or treating.

Friday:  Half day of school for my little guy so we spent the afternoon doing Halloween crafts and got to go out for dinner with family.

I have wanted a pair of gray boots for a couple years, but wasn’t willing to spend the money on them.  I already have black and brown boots, and decided that I would make do without gray ones…until…  I was shopping at a local consignment shop with my daughter around Halloween looking for some costume pieces, when I spotted these great boots for only $10.00.  They fit perfectly and are far more comfortable than any of the other boots that I own.  I have a feeling they are much nicer quality since the brand is usually sold at DSW shoe stores.  My guess is that I would never have spent as much on these boots new as they originally sold for, but I got a great deal and they are super comfortable and well made!

I’m pretty certain I will live in these boots all winter long and this whole outfit was very thrifty.

Distressed Jeans:  Kmart clearance $12.00

Scarf: K-mart Clearance  $3.00

Blue Tank Top:  Walmart $3.88

Gray Top:  Local boutique $15.00

Gray Boots:  Thrifted $10.00

Total Outfit cost: $43.88

Tuesday:  Halloween party at my little ladies preschool and dance class.  So fun to stay and play with the kids.

I love this black flowing jersey shirt.  I have had it through both of my pregnancies and it was the perfect after baby shirt and even fit through the entire pregnancy.  Definitely a keeper – it has gotten tons of wear over the last 5 years, and is perfect over skinny jeans for a comfy but cute style.  It is easy to move around in – chasing kids or taking care of whatever the day throws at me.

Black Top:  Old Navy – Old but I am sure I bought it on clearance

Gray Skinny Jeans: K-mart Clearance $6.00

Black Boots:  JC Penny about $40.00 with coupon

Total Outfit Cost:  About $50.00

Hair:  I saved my straightened hair using my favorite dry shampoo.  I added some volume and a side braid for a care free out of my face style – perfect for hanging out with preschoolers all day!

Get the low down on why I am including What I Wore Wednesday posts here, but the main reason is to motivate myself to put in a little extra effort each and every day.  What I wore Wednesday is a way for Mom’s to share outfits and get inspired to get dressed even if they aren’t heading off to work each day.  The Pleated Poppy has an amazing series where she shares what she wears each week to keep herself accountable for getting out of her pajamas everyday and I’m joining in the fun!
