Week three of What I wore Wednesday includes one dressy and colorful summer outfit that cost me only $10 and another Pinterest inspired outfit too! Because I don’t need a lot of dress up clothes , it is hard to spend a lot of money on the items that I wear only for special occasions, but $10.00 – I can handle!
Get the low down on why I am including What I Wore Wednesday posts here, but the main reason is to motivate myself to put in a little extra effort each and every day. What I wore Wednesday is a way for Mom’s to share outfits and get inspired to get dressed even if they aren’t heading off to work each day. The Pleated Poppy has an amazing series where she shares what she wears each week to keep herself accountable for getting out of her pajamas everyday and I’m joining in the fun!
Here is the Pinterest outfit for the week. I couldn’t find the original link to this outfit but it came off of Polyvore. No idea how much this outfit would cost but mine ran me about $25.00.
Monday: Errands and taking the kids to visit their cousins for the night
This is a pretty classic look using basics that everyone has in their closet. After looking at my other outfits for the week this in definitely not my favorite, but still better than pajamas! For the most part it is a great put together outfit – it is just not me, I guess.
Khaki Shorts: Old navy $9.78 with coupon
Black T-shirt: Kohls $5.99 with coupon
Black Flip Flops: Shopko $8.00
Scarf: Made by me for $1.75
I was recently at Old Navy and saw jersey infinity scarves in this exact pattern as mine for $16.00. I much prefer the $1.75 it cost me to make my own. Here is an easy tutorial I made last fall on how to make your own infinity scarf in about 5 minutes for far less money! I found my zebra print jersey fabric (they have black too) at Joann’s Fabric.
Hair: I love using the sock bun for a simple easy style in the summer time. I stay cool, and my hair stays put all day long. I added twisted bangs and a sock bun to my naturally curly hair for this 5 minute hair style.
Friday: Grocery shopping, out for dinner, ice cream and visiting family
I went most of the day without the cover up because it was so hot, but the orange coverup was perfect for the summer evening and going out for dinner. This outfit was fun, comfy, bright, easy, and perfect for running around and chasing kids.
Denim Shorts: Walmart $12.99
Lace Striped Tank: Old navy $ ? can’t remember
Lightweight orange coverup: TJ Max $11.99
Bracelet: Local gift shop $3.00
Hair: I added hot rollers to blow dried hair to get some volume on top and curls that I hoped would last throughout the day and the next day too. I added volume on top by back-coming and used bobby pins to put my hair half up.
Saturday: Outdoor bridal shower and to a family birthday party
Would you believe that this entire outfit only set me back $10.00?!! I loved how fun and simple this outfit was for only 10 bucks it was just the right kind of fancy for summer parties!
Sequined Pink Tank: Rue 21 Clearance $4.00
White Pants: Goodwill Clearance $ 0.99
Pink Wedges: Rue 21 Clearance $5.00
Earrings: Were a gift I received back in high school
Necklace with my kids pictured: Etsy seller: Designs by Linda Nee
Mine was a gift but they can be personalized for only $10.00
Total Outfit Cost: $10.00!
The white pants were a huge score at the thrift store for me! The comfy and classic white pants are the Christie Fit Flare Pants that sell for $49.50 from Victoria Secret. They were the perfect size but needed a quick hem. I used this great tutorial to quickly hem these pants to the perfect length. For less than $1 I now have the perfect pair of white pants that I can wear all summer long!
Hair: I saved my curls from the day before using my favorite dry shampoo. A ponytail holder created a side pony and I used a few bobby pins to create cascading curls to cover the ponytail holder. It was an easy style that required little time and it was perfect style for outdoor summer parties (kept the hair off my neck and I stayed nice and cool).
