What I Wore Wednesday – Add A Little Color To A Winter Wardrobe

Posted on Mar 6, 2013 in Clothes, For Moms, What I Wore Wednesday | 6 comments

This time of the year seems dreary and long, especially if you live in a place like Wisconsin.  I’m waiting on springtime, sunshine, and birds singing for sure.  In the meantime, I figure, I might as well add a little color to our whiteout winter conditions with my wardrobe.  To add a little cheer and color to my days, I have been adding some bright colorful pieces of clothing to my outfits in hopes of beating the winter blues.  It has been working, so far, and the outfits are much more vibrant and fun to wear.  I have been enjoying adding some bright colors to my otherwise dull winter wardrobe.  The fact that I went much darker with my hair has, for some reason, made me fell like I can pull it off a little easier.  Hot pink tops, bright green skinnies, and a fabulously colored red pea coat have really brightened up my last couple of weeks!

Get the low down on why I am including What I Wore Wednesday posts here, but the main reason is to motivate myself to put in a little extra effort each and every day.  What I wore Wednesday is a way for Mom’s to share outfits and get inspired to get dressed even if they aren’t heading off to work each day.  The Pleated Poppy has an amazing series where she shares what she wears each week to keep herself accountable for getting out of her pajamas everyday and I’m joining in the fun!

Date night:

I have never been a huge fan of animal print, but I though these shoes were super cute.  In small doses I think  leopard print is a great way to make an outfit really fun and interesting.  I am learning to like it.  I loved this bright pink shirt… and paired with some leopard print heels, it is the perfect date night combination!  I often wear this same outfit with black boots, but for a special night out, the heels were cute!Pink blouse:  Walmart $13.00

Black  stretch skinnies:  Walmart:  $16.88

Leopard Print Heels:  Target Clearance $15.00

Total Outfit Cost:$44.88

My Pinterestinspired outfit ended up being more comfortable than anything!  I found some pieces in my closet that matched this image from Blue Hydrangea on Polvore pretty well and definitely had to step out of my comfort zone to try it.  Not sure that I really loved it on me, but I was super comfy all day running around with the kiddos.

Effortless

The cost of this outfit was around $465.00.  My budget outfit came in at just $40.00 is a much more realistic mom on the go option.
My version:
White Tunic Blouse:  Rue 21 $20.00
Green Skinnies:  Walmart Clearance $7.00
Sparkly black flats:  Maurices Clearance $13.00
Total Outfit Cost:  $40.00
Necklace:  Lia Sophia
Earrings:  Shopko
Hair:  A 2 minute messy side bun – perfect for running out the door on a busy morning.
Last I wanted to share this fabulous fleece coat with you!  It was a gift from one of my best girlfriends, who knows I love a deal!  She was very happy to inform me when she gave me this coat as a Christmas gift that Old Navy was selling them for less than $15.00 – I was so proud of her!  This bright red coat is amazingly comfortable, and makes any outfit really stand out by putting it over the top of it!  I love the color with my new dark hair and the best part is – I feel like I am wearing a fleece zip up, but it looks much more tailored because of the pea coat style cut!
The underneath outfit is one of my favorite go to outfits featuring a denim shirt, black leggings, and boots.
Hair:  straitened and pinned half back

  1. I love the outfit with the green skinnies! That would be way outside my own comfort zone too, but I thought you pulled it off really well! I need to go shopping SO BADLY – I have nothing cool or trendy in my closet. (Love the dark hair too!)

    • I’m happy to hear you say that… I was a little unsure of it :) We must plan a shopping date together!

  2. The green skinnies are amazing. Walmart? $7? That is a steal! I love thrifting, but sometimes GWill is more expensive than Walmart. Crazy!

    • I totally agree, especially for a trend like colored skinnies, you just never know how long it will stick around! I don’t mind getting in on the “fads” at that price. I love thrifting too! Almost all of my outfits consist of something thrifted, but with 2 little ones it is rare to have a chance to comb through the racks! I find stuff randomly while grabbing groceries or a perscriptions at department stores too (like Target or Walmart)! Thanks for commenting – I stopped by your blog for the first time today and it is adorable! I will check back soon!

  3. Love your dark hair! :)
